1. Audacity
Site: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/
Description: Audacity is an easy to use editing and recording programme that can be used to create podcasts or edit recorded audio. Audacity can record live audio from single or multiple sources as well as convert tapes and records into digital format or CDs. It enables editing of most major digital file formats, some of which include WAV, MP2, and MP3 using the “optional libraries” feature. Editing techniques include cutting, copying, splitting or mixing sounds together, changing the pitch or speed of a recording, and adding audio effects such as fading, normalisation and trimming. Audacity can add effects and be used for post-processing of all types of audio. It has a wide variety of educational applications: teachers could use it to create podcasts of classroom lectures or music, edit recorded radio programmes or historical speeches for use during lessons, add effects to podcasts to add interest, make comments and enhance students’ enjoyment of the lesson material.
We will also need this .dll file for Audacity: lame_enc.dll

2. Wink
Site: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/
Description: Wink is a free screen-capture and tutorial creation programme. It is primarily aimed at creating tutorials on how to use software. Desktop screen shots can be recorded and compiled into a Flash tutorial. Wink has many additional features: screen shots can be edited and enhanced by adding mouse movements and specifying explanations. It features input-based capture, text annotations, navigation buttons and callouts, which display textual explanations. In the classroom, Wink is particularly useful for IT teaching, but can be used in almost any subject. Using Wink, teachers can record series of desktop screen shots to produce a highly effective video tutorial explaining a specific computer based task, such as creating spreadsheets. Alternatively, teachers can also capture diagrammatic information and statistics to illustrate other topics, such as mathematics or science.
Here are the tutorial files for wink: Wink Tutorials (Note: extract the file using WinZip or WinRar)
